An Adventurous Project

Day in the Life
Counseling and Psychological Services Awareness
One of the coolest projects I’ve gotten to work on was a series of deliverables for the Penn State campus police. Wanting to capture a more documentary feel, our team devised a creative strategy that emphasized action above all else. There were a lot of mobile shoots including a police car ride-along, security protocol for Big Ten sporting events, and even some playtime with one of the K9 units.
Personally speaking, the “Police Services” project provided an important outlet for developing my own leadership qualities. Building off of the foundation set with the B.S./M.B.A. project, I was able to transfer my skills into the producer role. I was responsible for arranging all shoots and meetings with the client, while also keeping them in the loop about our editing progress. In total, I sent about 180+ emails in a four-month timespan.
Penn State Campus Safety Resources
The “Day in the Life” concept came from our student executive, Cameron Hightower, who proposed the formatting as a means of standing out against other CommAgency-produced video projects. In total we interviewed four police officers, one student auxiliary officer, and got to meet a K9 unit named Bo. I am incredibly proud of the hard work our team put into gathering the extensive footage for this video, integrating most facets of police work into a three-minute deliverable.
The “CAPS” video was by far our most sensitive subject. Mental health services is a serious matter, which would require an authentic yet delicate presentation. Our client wanted to promote these services in addition to their own responsibilities with helping students who are presently suffering from a mental crisis. We ended up interviewing a CAPS representative who exceled in accommodating us their space when most appropriate for filming.
The “Campus Resources” video is perhaps the most simplistic yet essential of our deliverables. We structured our script to present the accessibility of Penn State’s safety resources in a succinct, easily digestible manner. With so much information being thrown at incoming students, it was imperative that we allow the most prevalent information to take center stage in this video.
